I lived in China 2011-2013 and went back in 2018 and was surprised at how much it had developed in some places in 5 years. Particularly Shenzhen was like a new city. I am eager to get back with my family.

Been there , done that… you are describing exactly what I have experienced traveling all over.Just as my son and his chinese girlfriend and her wonderful family helped us discover crisscrossing from Hong Kong Shenzhen Chengdu, Chongqing, even Harbin. The place is peaceful, friendly and safe, zooming into the 21st century real fast.

It's a good list. A small suggestion for carrying the passport. Carrying a screenshot of your passport will get you a long way through parks and museums. You don't really need the original copy of your passport entering those places. It's a must however when you board high speed trains and flights.
